Thomas Elliot HarrisonTHOMAS Elliot Harrison was born in London in 1808 and grew up in Monkwearmouth, Sunderland. Harrison was apprenticed as an engineer and surveyor in Newcastle upon Tyne, where he met the great railway engineers George Stephenson and his son Robert Stephenson.
